Jesus said, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children." (Matthew 19:14)
We are here to welcome all children, and to assist parents and families in what should be our primary responsibility: Teach children that when we put God first, all other things will fall into their proper place.
*Online Enrollment for 2017-18 will begin Saturday, July 1st. Meanwhile, attending Mass and helping your children understand it's meaning is the best eternal gift you can give them.
Parents are a child's number 1, most influential, teacher.
We offer the following programs for additional religious education:
CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD (CGS): Michelle Stewart, 816-537-6990
Our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program is a Montessori based Religious Education program that teaches children how Jesus lives in their heart. Classes are currently held on Tuesday
mornings at 9:30am, Tuesday evenings at 6pm, and Wednesday evenings at either 5pm or 7:00pm. Three to twelve year old students learn in a spiritual environment called an Atrium. Visit www.cgsksmo.org for more information about this unique program.
CHRISTIAN FORMATION PROGRAM (CFP): Michelle Stewart, 816-537-6990
Our Christian Formation Program provides quality religious education for the children of Holy Spirit. Preschool classes are held during the 10:30am Mass on Sunday. Kindergarten through Fifth grade meet on Tuesday evenings, 6:00pm, or Wednesday evenings at 5:00pm. Both CGS and CFP are excellent programs, each is tailored to a child's learning style. Call or email Michelle Stewart at the Parish Office if you have any questions, or would like to volunteer.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD: Kim Sullivan, 816-898-9093
On the second and fourth Sundays of the month at 10:30 Mass, school-age children are dismissed from Mass to participate in a separate Liturgy of the Word designed for them. The program is led by volunteers from the community. The team is always looking for more volunteers. If you would like to help, please call the Parish Office.
FIRST EUCHARIST: Michelle Stewart, 816-537-6990
First Communion is celebrated during the Easter Season for children in 2nd grade; either a group celebration or individual reception with the family are possibilities. We are also happy to arrange for older children to receive the sacraments. Parents are expected to take the primary role in preparing their children for this Sacrament. Assistance is provided through parent meetings and in regular Christian Formation Program (CFP) and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) classes. Additionally, there are two required parent/child workshops.
FIRST RECONCILIATION: Michelle Stewart, 816-537-6990
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is usually celebrated with children in the winter months of their 2nd grade, most often at a communal celebration. Parents are expected to take the primary role in preparing their children for this Sacrament. Assistance is provided through parent meetings and in regular Christian Formation Program (CFP) and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) classes. Additionally, there are two required parent/child workshops.
INFANT BAPTISM: Terry Brunetti, 537-6990 x382
Parents are expected to be registered parishioners, and attend a baptism class. Classes are held on the last Sunday of the month at 9:45 AM. The Sacrament of Baptism can be celebrated during a weekend Mass, or immediately after. Dates can be scheduled after parents attend the class.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: Michelle Stewart, 816-537-6990
Our annual VBS is held in early June for one week. Enrollment begins in early May and fills up quickly. Children ages 4-10 enjoy Bible Stories, Games, Crafts, Songs and Snacks all centered around the theme of God’s love for us. Many volunteers, ages 12 and up, are needed for a successful and fun week. Please email or call Michelle Stewart if interested; lots of “behind-the-scene” help needed as well.
